How to
Salt the Earth for Jesus Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. (Matthew 5:13) This verse should frighten anyone who believes that Jesus is speaking the truth. If it doesn´t frighten you, then you probably don´t understand it. Jesus makes this statement while He is seated on top of a mountain talking to His disciples (students). Perhaps the people who follow Him in ´the multitude´ can also hear Him. So, the ´Ye´ refers to His disciples (students) which therefore includes all who claim to be ´Christians´ today. Salt was used in ancient times to prevent food from spoiling. Meat and fish was covered in salt before refrigeration to ´cure´ the food from decay and rottenness. This preserved the flavor and prevented valuable food from being thrown into the garbage pit and burned with fire. Christians are to serve the same purpose as salt - they are to prevent the world and their fellow Christians from becoming rotten with sin: Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him. (Leviticus 19:17) This preservation of their fellow men is the ´saving´ of the valuable property of God from being throw in the ´garbage pit´ of Hell. If God´s people fail to do the purpose for which God created them and blessed them then God will reject them and He will let men ´trod them under foot´. And an host was given him against the daily sacrifice by reason of transgression, and it cast down the truth to the ground; and it practised, and prospered. - Daniel 8:12 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. - Revelation 13:7 The saints are the ´daily sacrifice´ because every day they die to themselves so that God can live in them. The ´transgression´ is the failure of Christians to keep themselves and their fellow men clean and pure - they didn´t ´salt the earth´ and now are going to be ´trodden under feet of men´ and ´overcome´. The saints of God will fail to cleanse the earth. It is a sad prophecy that seems to be impossible to change. However, that doesn´t mean His people are given permission to stop trying. His people will be ´overcome´ for their transgression against Christ´s commandments, but let them not allow this transgression to happen in their own time and their own homes. They should work to prolong the time before the End so that Christ can gather in His full harvest without missing a single human soul. Some people seem to want the End to come right now, so they don´t even try to salt the earth with the call to righteousness, peace, truth and love. This rush to end the harvest is against the purpose of Christ to have the biggest harvest possible. When God´s people see a Christian acting sinfully we should peacefully try to correct them - it is an obligation of every Christian to do so (Matthew 18:15). They are also to preach the truth of God to the un-Christian world - to try to ´cure´ them with ´salt´ from their rottenness and moral decay (Matthew 28:20). But what is rottenness? There is complete confusion in Christian churches about what is sinful (or rotten) and what is not. The Bible makes it all very clear but wicked people are very clever in finding ways to excuse their own sin or the sin of others. They are also clever in finding ways to condemn the righteous who preach the truth - like the prophets, Jesus and the disciples. The confusion: Is divorce a sin? Is homosexuality a sin? Is greed a sin? Is usury (lending for interest) a sin? Is abortion a sin? Is joining the army a sin? Is Feminism a sin? Is divorce and remarriage a sin? Is suing someone sin? Is lying a sin? Is fornication (sex before marriage) a sin? Is economic and military oppression a sin? Is violence a sin? Is swearing an oath (to the government) a sin? Is living in luxury (lust) a sin? Is laying up treasure on earth (savings, retirement funds, property) a sin? You can find people and churches that will argue both sides of all of these questions, but if you are honest and you read the Bible carefully you will know that they are all sins. Sins which, if not abandoned, will condemn you. Jesus came to fulfill the law - that is, make it possible for us to obey the law - not to abolish it (Matthew 5:17). Christians today believe that they may live however seems right in their own eyes. They believe God will spare them on judgment day because Jesus died for them. But Jesus said he will deny all who work iniquity - regardless of whether He died for them or not. (Matthew 7:23) If you work iniquity then you have rejected the death of Christ and have not received the Holy Spirit - therefore you should not expect to be spared. The command of Jesus is to work against corruption in the world. Anything that is forbidden by God should be condemned. God´s people are to rebuke their family, their neighbor, their church or their government if they are clearly out of obedience to the Gospel and the Law. It is an obligation. It is the reason why God´s people are here. If they do not do it God will throw them out and replace them with better people to do the job. God has done this many times, such as with Israel and the Jews, who trusted that they were special and that God would never abandon them. Can you see the how serious this commandment of Jesus is now? Fear God, praise God´s righteousness, salt the earth and try to save some of the people from their sins through obedience to the Gospel. |
