The Lesson of a Tree When you look at a tree there is a part of it below ground that you cannot see: the roots. The roots grow in darkness and are surrounded by corruption (worms, rotting dung, etc). The roots seldom get to see the sunlight or the half of the tree above ground because they will die if uncovered too much. This life is like the roots and the next life is like the half of the tree above ground. We are all living in a dark world surrounded by corruption. We rarely see the next life or Heaven because it is dangerous for us to be exposed to the light. Like roots support the tree above we must support our heavenly life from this earthly life. We give charity to the poor and do good works to feed the tree above. If we do not do these things, the tree above will wither and die. Without the tree above to gather sunlight we have lost our source of life and we also die. Also, the tree will be unfruitful if the roots do not supply food and water to the branches above. If the tree is unfruitful it will be cut down: And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. (Luke 3:9) Without contribution to the next life from this life we die. When we contribute to the next life we live in this life and the next life also. If we want to be healthy and strong we must maintain the tree above so that it can gather the sun´s energy to feed us. Only then we are able to make fruit for the Gardener. Without any fruit we will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
